Father and son gunmen kill at least 15 people in attack on Hanukkah event at Sydney’s Bondi Beach
A child is one of at least 15 people killed in an attack in Australia at one of the world’s most famous beaches. One of the gunman was also shot dead.
The deadly shooting during a Hanukkah celebration at Australia's Bondi Beach follows a sharp rise in antisemitic attacks in the country since the Hamas-led assault on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, and the ensuing war in Gaza.
Once again, Jewish people were targeted and attacked on a major religious holiday, marking the latest escalation in an antisemitism epidemic.
The bystander who tackled and disarmed one of the gunmen has been identified by local media as 43-year-old Ahmed al Ahmed.
New South Wales Premier Chris Minns said the attack "was designed to target Sydney's Jewish community on the first day of Hanukkah."
