New Delhi’s frayed ties with Washington have added to a thaw in the frosty relationship with Beijing that began last year.

There is an upward trend in India-China relations and Beijing has promised to address New Delhi's needs on rare earths, a top Indian official and a source said on Tuesday, as the neighbours rebuild ties that were damaged by a 2020 border clash.

India and China are attempting a cautious reset in their strained relationship, but experts warn the road ahead will be marked by hard bargaining and unresolved tensions. Former diplomats and strategic affairs specialists told CNBC-TV18 that while trade flows and export relaxations offer short-term gains,

India and China should view each other as "partners" rather than "adversaries or threats", Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Monday, as he arrived for a two-day visit to Delhi.

Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on Monday discussed border peace, trade issues and bilateral exchanges, aiming to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

Wang Yi is the first Chinese minister to visit India since the end of the military face-off between the two countries on the Line of Actual Control last October
