Hurricane Erin – an already powerful Category 4 storm in the Atlantic Ocean – is getting stronger and is expected to grow even larger, according to the National Hurricane Center.

An Atlantic disturbance now has a 50 percent chance of cyclone formation, according to the National Hurricane Center.

After weakening a bit, Erin continues to strengthen and grow. A tropical wave could become the next depression or storm.

If a storm is a Category 3, 4 or 5, it is deemed a "major" hurricane due to the potential for "significant loss of life and damage," the National Hurricane Center says. Hurricanes that fall into categories 1 or 2 are still considered dangerous, the center says.
