Osmond, a Connecticut resident, gave up buying lottery tickets more than a decade ago after losing around $1 million on various games, be they scratch-offs or drawings. He told MarketWatch that his addiction cost him his business (he owned two gas stations), his home and nearly any semblance of a normal life.

The winning numbers for an estimated $605 million Powerball jackpot -- with a cash option of $273.4 million --were drawn Monday evening, marking what could become the fifth jackpot win of 2025 and the largest prize of the year, according to the Powerball website.

More than 755,000 other Powerball tickets sold in the United States also won prizes ranging from $4 to $1 million, the lottery said.
