The former Birmingham-Southern College (BSC) campus is becoming a new training center for the United States Coast Guard.
The Coast Guard could start training new members at the site by the end of the year.
A second recruit training facility was needed because the Coast Guard is planning to add 15,000 new service members by 2028, DHS said.
