The group found that Black teenagers in the US are about twice as likely as their white and Latino peers to have teachers incorrectly flag their schoolwork as AI-generated. Common Sense Media surveyed 1,045 13- to 18-year-olds and their parents from March 15 through April 20.

In 2024, cheating has evolved. It's a tale as old as teaching -- a student, for one reason or another, uses someone else's work to complete their assignment. But now, they could be using an artificial intelligence tool.

Overall, about 10 percent of teens of any background said they had their work inaccurately identified as generated by an AI tool, Common Sense found. But 20 percent of Black teens were falsely accused of using AI to complete an assignment,
