Oracle Database In-Memory will run on the same computer systems that companies use today with their Oracle Databases and support the business applications they currently use without modification.

Oracle's Database 12c, which offers multitenant and in-memory options, is generally available and the latest release is the company's primary product to quell concerns about the competition.

If Oracle can stop rivals in their tracks on the real-time analytics front, the company's database -- under fire from open source alternatives -- will keep customers for multiple investment cycles.
