The Trump administration must balance its tough talk with the operational reality of the immigration system, which is already showing signs of collapse less than two months into his return to power.

President Donald Trump oversaw a surge in ICE arrests during the first 50 days of his second term in office—more than doubling the daily rate under President Joe Biden's administration—newly released figures show.

With President Trump back in office, ICE has made 32,000 arrests in the first 50 days of the new administration — and 70% are either facing charges or have been convicted of crimes, senior agency officials said Wednesday.

"We ended catch [and] release, and we have returned ICE to its core mission, which is arresting people who violate our immigration law," acting ICE Director Todd Lyons said. "Secretary Noem and I are changing the culture of ICE to one of action and accountability.
