A major new winter storm is expected to bring ice and snow to the upper Midwest on Thursday, with the system moving through the lower Northeast on Friday.
While it wasn’t a white Christmas in New York City, a snowy weekend is likely, with what could be the biggest snowstorm in four years. City sanitation crews are getting ready to hit the streets to prepare roads for the storm that could bring eight inches to the five boroughs and parts of the Tri-State Area.
Some of the highest totals were on Long Island and in New Jersey, where greater than 6 inches of snow was measured.
Friday's storm could produce a coating to a couple of inches, mostly south of the Mass Pike and southwest of Boston.
As of 1 p.m., 2.7 inches of snow had fallen at Belvedere Castle in Central Park, the official National Weather Service measuring station for the city. That made Sunday the earliest date of the season since 2018 that more than two inches of snow had accumulated in Central Park.
