The U.S. Department of Homeland Security wants to deputize some Internal Revenue Service criminal investigators and other Treasury Department personnel to perform immigration enforcement, according to a DHS document and an agency spokesperson.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem is requesting IRS agents help find businesses hiring workers illegally and help with other immigration tasks.

The request marks the Trump administration’s latest effort to devote more federal resources to fulfill his campaign pledge to deport millions of undocumented immigrants.
