SYDNEY, Dec 15 (Reuters) - The deadly attack on a Jewish festival at a famed Australian beach has deepened diplomatic tensions between Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and his Israeli counterpart, as domestic pressure mounted for his government to respond to antisemitism.
Local media name the older gunman as Sajid Akram, 50, who died at the scene. His son Naveed Akram, 24, is in a critical condition in hospital.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had a phone call with Australian foreign minister Penny Wong on Monday to "discuss the antisemitic terrorist attack at Sydney’s Bondi Beach", the US State Department's spokesperson Tommy Pigott said in a statement. The statement also said the US "strongly condemns the heinous terrorist attack".
Once again, Jewish people were targeted and attacked on a major religious holiday, marking the latest escalation in an antisemitism epidemic.
