The next landmark version of OpenAI's ChatGPT could use GPT-5, but don't start assuming this will have any semblance of "AGI."

GPT-4.5 could arrive as soon as next week, as Microsoft gets ready to host OpenAI’s latest models.

Microsoft is preparing to host OpenAI's GPT-5 and GPT-4.5 models. GPT-4.5 may launch by next week and GPT-5 is likely to launch in late May.

Engineers at Microsoft are boosting infrastructure capacity in preparation for the latest iterations of OpenAI’s large language models, the first of which could be implemented by the end of February.

GPT-5’s debut will be preceded by the release of a less capable large language model, GPT-4.5, in the coming weeks. The latter algorithm is the successor to the company’s general-purpose GPT-4o model. GPT-4o is less adept at tasks such as generating code than OpenAI’s reasoning-optimized LLMs, but it offers significantly lower inference costs.

OpenAI's paying business users also crossed 2 million in February, more than doubling from its last update in September.

ChatGPT maker OpenAI says it has reached 400 million weekly active users for its artificial intelligence tools, making a rapid growth spurt since it reported 300 million in December. OpenAI told media outlets that it's doubled the number of paid enterprise users to 2 million since September,
