C oastal warnings will be in place for New Yorkers as Hurricane Erin passes the east coast of the US, as strong advice has been issued to locals - with people being strongly urged to stay out of water until the dangerous weather event has passed.

People trying to enjoy the last hurrahs of summer along the coast are being met on Wednesday with rip-current warnings, closed beaches and treacherous waves as Erin inches closer, once again on the cusp of becoming a major hurricane as it treks north after lashing Bermuda.

Hurricane Erin has battered North Carolina’s Outer Banks with strong winds and waves that flooded part of the main highway and surged under beachfront homes.

The Norwegian Escape is extending its visit to New York City due to the impact of Hurricane Erin on the East Coast. After repositioning from Miami, the Norwegian Cruise Line ship was scheduled to sail from its new homeport on Wednesday.
