Daniel Jones will begin the season as the team's starting quarterback over Anthony Richardson, Colts head coach Shane Steichen announced Tuesday. Jones was signed to a one-year, $14 million deal in the offseason, with the expectation that he would compete against the 2023 fourth overall pick Richardson for the starting job.

News broke Tuesday morning that Jones will serve as the team’s QB1, choosing the ex-New York Giants starter over Anthony Richardson, whom coach Shane Steichen advocated for Indianapolis to draft at No. 4 in 2023. Richardson and Jones had been engaged in a position battle ever since Jones signed with the Colts in March.
