Hundreds of people in Santa Barbara joined a national battlecry on Thursday to salvage democracy within the United States. The lawn of the Santa Barbara Courthouse was packed for this local rendition of the country’s “May Day” protests, which traditionally recognize workers’ rights and labor unions.

“Oregon will not be bullied into violating our principles and our laws,” she added. “Oregon will continue to honor the long history of being a sanctuary state, and as your governor, I am committed to the safety and prosperity of every Oregonian, from recent immigrants to people who have been here multiple generations.”
