This is a culmination of years of racist backlash. Like Halle Bailey before her, when Rachel was first cast in the role in June of 2021, she received a lot of criticism from people who took issue with a Disney princess being played by a woman of color.
Along with the “Free Palestine” remark, Zegler caused controversy by trashing the original “Snow White” movie before the remake’s release. She called the Prince character “a stalker” and promised that her film would be more “modern” than the “dated” animated classic.
