Chelsea have confirmed the permanent transfer of defender Renato Veiga to Villarreal. The Portugal international only joined Enzo Maresca's squad last summer but has earned the club a healthy proft.
Spanish paper AS have the move broken down – the Yellow Submarine didn’t want to pay more than €20m for Veiga, while Chelsea wanted €35m. It sounds like an impossible gap to bridge, but both sides have clearly seen their position was unreasonable.
A year after arriving at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea have made significant profit on their Veiga investment, selling him for more then double what they signed him for. With less than two weeks to go before the transfer window closes, the Blues are still working on a number of other departures to facilitate further signings.
