As Hurricane Erin is likely to impact the North Carolina coast, a tropical storm warning was issued on Tuesday for much of the North Carolina coast, including from the Town of Duck all the way down to Surf City,
By Tuesday morning, Erin had lost some strength from previous days and dropped to a Category 2 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 110 mph (175 kph), the National Hurricane Center in Miami said.
On Monday at 5:10 p.m. the NWS Newport/Morehead City NC issued a tropical cyclone statement in effect until Tuesday at 1:15 a.m. The statement is for East Carteret, Northern Outer Banks, Ocracoke Island and Hatteras Island.
