Japan handed the United States its first loss under coach Emma Hayes with a 2-1 victory Wednesday in the SheBelieves Cup title game.
Campbell misread the run-up to Japan’s early opener and took herself out of the play by running into teammate Emily Sonnett. On the second goal, her brilliant save on a free kick put the ball directly back into an opponent’s path, making it all too easy on the eventual tournament winner.
Lynn Biyendolo — formerly Lynn Williams — scored 42 seconds into the match and the United States beat Australia 2-1 on Sunday in the SheBelieves Cup.
The United States Women’s National Team faces Colombia in the Shebelieves Cup on Thursday, Feb.20 2025 (2/20/25) at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas.
