Republican Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo vetoed a proposal Thursday aimed at expanding ballot dropboxes. The proposal, Assembly Bill 306, would have required Clark County to establish 10 drop boxes be available between the end of early voting and the day before Election Day.

Governor Joe Lombardo has vetoed Assembly Bill 306, a measure that would have required the expansion of mail ballot drop boxes in certain Nevada counties during the final days leading up to a general election.

His decision comes as current Nevada Treasurer Zach Conine, a Democrat, said earlier this month he aimed to run for term-locked Attorney General Aaron Ford’s office. Johnson lost to incumbent Rep. Susie Lee, D-Las Vegas, in the 2024 general election by over 10,000 votes. It was the closest of the four House races in Nevada last fall.
