The first AP Top 25 college basketball poll of 2026 featured little shakeup at the very top, with Arizona and Michigan holding firm at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. However, after there was no poll last week due to the lack of teams playing, plenty of movement in the middle took place.

The Spuds stormed through the Tradition Invitational, beating three of the state’s top Class 2A teams — Cretin-Derham Hall, Shakopee and St. Thomas Academy — on successive nights. Is there really much difference between the top teams in Class 2A and Class 1A? The Hawks are 8-0-2 against 2A teams this season.

Volusia County’s top public school makes its Top 25 debut after winning 10 in a row since falling to Dr. Phillips, 51-48, on Nov. 28. The Buccaneers are led by talented junior guard Kade Manley, who is averaging 16.6 points per game, and senior small forward/point guard Canyon Powers, who is averaging 5.8 rebounds per game.

Though he settled for the Seahawks ’ OC job last cycle, Klint Kubiak was on a lot of head coaching lists in 2025. He’ll have an even better argument this time after managing Sam Darnold to 14 wins and turning Jaxon Smith-Njigba into a juggernaut at WR.
