Officers attempted to stop the driver after the Acura was spotted on Highway 1 near Verde Road, but the driver kept going, authorities said. (KRON) — The California Highway Patrol is actively investigating a deadly crash on Highway 17 in Santa Cruz County near Vine Hill Road, roughly 5.5 miles south of Santa Clara County. Authorities temporarily shut down the northbound side of Highway 17.

A section of Highway 1 just south of Half Moon Bay closed to traffic Saturday night due to police activity, the California Highway Patrol said in an announcement around 8 p.m.

The shooting took place in California about a 20-mile drive northwest from Reno, officers say.
