Homeowners, businesses and families are picking up the pieces after storms early Saturday raked Ellis County, killing one person and leaving a trail of damage across the county. Meteorologists say winds that tore through the area reached between 80 to 90 miles per hour.

Per Ellis County Resolution 2017-4, the Ellis County Fire Department is announcing the implementation of a temporary burn ban in all the unincorporated areas of Ellis County effective Tuesday, March 11. While in a burn ban, this limits the open burning of garden/yard debris, pastures, ditches, or other materials.

After powerful winds Saturday morning ripped through the roof and the supports holding up the Days Inn motel, where Becky Hogle both works the front desk and lives, she and the owner moved to get everyone out.

Property owners in Ennis, Waxahachie, Maypearl and other Ellis County cities continue the process of cleaning up after Saturday's storms.

The clean-up continues in Ellis County from Saturday's severe weather that produced damaging winds and golf ball-sized hail.

Oncor reported that more than 2,400 customers were still affected as of 9:34 p.m. in Ellis County, which has reported major storm damage. This figure makes up the vast majority of the total Oncor customers without power at the time, which stood at over 2,800.
