At the end of his figure skating performance, when the last note of his parents’ favorite song played in an arena packed with spectators and heavy with sorrow, Maxim Naumov dropped to his knees at the center of the ice. Little more than a month after a tragic air disaster took the lives of 28 members of the US figure skating community, emotions were on full display Sunday in Washington, DC, for the “Legacy on Ice” tribute.

A star-studded group of some of the best U.S. figure skaters of the past and present took the ice in the nation's capital to remember and raise money for the victims of the midair collision outside Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

Among those lending star power to the tribute/fundraiser are 1988 Olympic champion Brian Boitano and 1992 Olympic champion Kristi Yamaguchi.

One month after 67 lives were lost in a midair collision over the Potomac River, figure skating legends and the D.C. community came together at Capital One Arena for a powerful tribute: "Legacy on Ice.
