No threat to Hawaii as Tropical Storm Keli forms, Hurricane Iona strengthens south of isles
“Confidence remains high that Iona will stay well south of the Hawaiian Islands,” forecasters report. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 15 miles from the center, while tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles from the center. HONOLULU – Hurricane Iona strengthened into a Category 3 storm hundreds of miles southeast of Honolulu late Monday night local time, as Tropical Storm Keli follows on Iona’s heels several hundred miles to its east in the Central Pacific Ocean.
