Gov. Jeff Landry said he was sending 135 members of the Louisiana National Guard to Washington D.C. as part of President Donald Trump's federal crackdown on crime in the city.

By Joseph Ax (Reuters) -Hundreds of additional National Guard troops are headed to Washington, D.C., from half a dozen Republican-led states, bolstering President Donald Trump's extraordinary move to flood the Democratic-led city with soldiers and federal agents in what he claims is an effort to fight violent crime.

Governor Jeff Landry announced the approval of deploying the Louisiana National Guard to Washington, D.C. on Monday.

Mr. Bailey, a Republican, has been an active ally of Mr. Trump’s, and veterans of his office have taken significant roles in the administration, including D. John Sauer, who now serves as the solicitor general of the United States, overseeing the Trump administration’s arguments before the Supreme Court.
