A trio of Texas Democrats slept overnight in the state house instead of traveling home with a mandated law enforcement escort ordered by the Republican leadership as they continued their peaceful resistance against the state leadership and their controversial redistricting plan.

A Texas Democrat has stayed overnight at the state Capitol to protest how the Texas House’s top Republican had dozens of her colleagues shadowed.

Texas Democratic lawmakers left two weeks ago to block a GOP plan to redraw the state’s congressional districts. They said they were returning now that California Democrats are adopting a counterproposal.
