BEIJING--Beijing said on Friday it opposed President Donald Trump’s latest threat to slap an extra 10% duty on Chinese imports, accusing the U.S. of “shifting the blame” for the flow of fentanyl and promising retaliation to protect its interests.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday said his proposed 25% tariffs on Mexican and Canadian goods will take effect on Tuesday, along with an extra 10% duty on Chinese imports because deadly drugs are still pouring into the U.S. from those countries.

Beijing has less than a week to publish countermeasures as US administration takes a harder stance on its rival, despite backing down on 60% tariff threat after Trump took office.

The White House is eyeing an end to the de minimis import rule. "U.S. consumers could face larger consequences than meet the eye," the New York Fed wrote.
