A fifth person has died in connection with a Legionnaires’ disease outbreak in New York City. The outbreak in Central Harlem has sickened dozens since it began in late July and the latest death was announced Monday night.

There are now 108 confirmed cases of the potentially deadly form of pneumonia in Harlem since late July, NYC officials said.

The last of 12 cooling towers that tested positive for the bacteria currently spawning a Legionnaires’ outbreak in Harlem is being remediated Friday, with officials hoping containment efforts will help prevent another death.
