The 38-year-old man who Maui police said fatally shot an officer on Friday night in Paia has a long criminal record and is being held without bail.

PAIA (HawaiiNewsNow) - Maui police have identified the suspect allegedly responsible for shooting and killing Maui police officer Suzanne O in Paia. Clembert Kaneholani, 38, is currently being held without bail. His charges include murder in the first degree, attempted murder in the second degree and two felon in possession of ammunition.

It’s being called a profound tragedy that’s left the Maui Police Department heartbroken. An officer was shot and killed in the line of duty Friday night, the first shooting death of an officer on the island in nearly 70 years.
