Nantucket announced Tuesday that all South Shore beaches would be closed due to large surf and dangerous rip currents from approaching Hurricane Erin.

Erin is considered a Category 2 storm based on its sustained wind speeds.

South Florida and U.S. East Coast residents, however, should brace for indirect effects, including higher surf and a heightened rip current risk over the next several days.
