At least 4,400 years old, this lyre fragment in the form of a bull’s head is attributed to the Sumerian culture of Ur of Ancient Mesopotamia. Made of gold, shell, lapis lazuli, bitumen, and silver, it features detailed eyes, a snout, and a lapis beard, and was likely originally affixed to the front of a wooden lyre.
