A recently circulated video from Hoko town—on the Sidama Region side, where the Genale River forms the boundary with Oromia’s Guji Zone—shows young residents using car inner tubes to cross the swollen river in the absence of a bridge. The footage captures youths lying on the tubes and transporting people across by balancing them on their backs. According to Maleda Media, several people and livestock have died in similar attempts to cross the river in the past. Residents say the district has repe
